Dr. Araujo's particular interest in bariatric (obesity) surgeries including laparoscopic and bypass procedures coupled with his concern about the health issues associated with the overweight individual inspired him to launch his obesity clinic at Star Medica. Dra. Maria Icaza

The team is enriched with the enthusiastic, intelligent and dedicated Dra. Icaza, Gastroenterologist. In her early career, Dra. Icaza was widely published in the areas of liver problems including early investigations into Hepatitis A, B and C as well as liver cancer.

She has also done extensive research into esophageal diagnostic and treatment issues including reflux. Dra. Icaza is the team's expert in endoscopic diagnostic procedures (e.g. colonoscopy) and the placement of the intragastric balloon for achieving and maintaining weight loss.

Together, she and Dr. Araujo have assembled an outstanding proactive health group by adding a licensed Nutritionist, a medical Administrator and Program Coordinator - all fluent in English. This endeavor offers a holistic and comprehensive approach for foreign residents and medical tourists.

Dr. Felipe Camara

On a recent medical relief mission to Haiti, Dr. Camara contributed his time and orthopedic expertise by performing numerous voluntary surgeries for the earthquake's torn and broken.

His leadership is well-known in the area of establishing medical performance standards and attaining the highest accreditation of any other hospital on the Yucatan Peninsula. Incorporating many of the standards of the U.S. Joint Commission International (JCI), he spearheaded the efforts to make Star Medica Hospital stand above the rest.

His Orthopedic Medical Group consists of 4 English-fluent and highly trained physicians, each possessing specific orthopedic skills encompassing all areas of surgery.

Dr. Guillermo Bobadilla

Among his connections to the United States, Dr. Casillas has a sister who resides in Alabama. He has a medical liaison with Houston cardiologists and studied under Dr. Bakey, the world-renowned transplant surgeon. Dr. Casillas has a successful international performance record including a recent miraculous life-saving surgery of an Italian national, and also being called to Texas as the chief medical consultant for a complex, pediatric cardiovascular surgery. Dr. Mendez is the Director of the Southeastern Center for Gynecology, Obstetrics and Assisted Reproduction (CEGORIS) which is located in our Star Medica facility. Dr. Mendez is renowned in the Yucatan peninsula for his endeavors over the past decade in the development and implementation of high technology procedures to help couples realize their dream of a successful pregnancy.

Among these are In-vitro (FIV-TE), ICIS (Injection of low count, low motility sperm into the cytoplasm of the ovum) and Assisted Hatching. Dr. Mendez works in tandem with his wife Dra. Catalina Aldana, gynecological specialist, on many other fertility related procedures such as reconnection after tubal ligation and vasectomy.

They maintain important ties with the North American community outside of medicine as their son studies music in Alberta, Canada. to top
