I’ve heard about medical tourism hospitals in India, Thailand, and even Costa Rica and Panama – but they are surrounded by an awful shocking urban environment – what about your hospital?

One of your first surprises is the modern and mostly brand new Altabrisa area where the contemporary hospitals are located. Innovative boulevards, palm trees, modern buildings, and very attractive surrounding residential areas remind you of a stylish district of Toronto or Dallas. The hospital is new, as is the hotel across the street and the mega shopping mall complex with 20-screen theatre. And along with pharmacies and clinics you will find all the usual U.S. restaurant and fast-food chains.to top

For those patients needing financing we recommend that you arrange financing in your home country to find the most attractive terms. However, here in Merida we have made arrangements with a local company that will offer you financing over a 12-month period if you should decide to take this route.to top

Why should I select you?

After you study the ABOUT US and the WHY CHOOSE US sections we believe that you will not want to consider any other facility or any other medical facilitator group : high standards, maturity, and a wealth of experience both here in Yucatan, the States and Canada.to top

How do I prepare for my trip?

We provide you with an easy to use, comprehensive STEP-BY-STEP checklist and a personalized itinerary. Our continuous communication with you as your medical travel planners insures that you are well-informed and that you are completely prepared for your trip.to top

Do I have a choice in the selection of my accommodations?

Yes, and an excellent variety. We inspect and evaluate each of our recommended hotels and B &Bs regularly and provide you a detailed description and analysis so that together we can make the match that fits you the best. The accommodations we offer range from budget to moderately-priced to the more upscale and luxurious - including 5-Star hacienda stays - and we have negotiated the most reasonable rates. There are choices in the type of hotel as well: Some are smaller properties, some are American or Canadian owned while others may belong to a familiar, large chain. And there is a choice in the degree of services and amenities offered by the hotels (massage, room service, kitchenette, etc.) as well as selection of accommodation: suites, double/king rooms, or self-catering apartments.to top

And what about transportation?

Your transportation needs are completely taken care of at every step of your journey so you never have to worry! It is always one of our team members or one of our select, trusted English-speaking drivers – whom we have used for many years, who will be escorting you to and from the airport, hotel, doctor appointments, and admissions and discharge. And for those who choose to upgrade, we, of course can provide limousine service. (Additional transportation services can be arranged: restaurant, touring, etc.)to top

Is Merida, Yucatan a safe destination?

Merida, despite its contemporary urban style, is also a step back in time to a different era insofar as being able to walk the streets at night without risk, sightsee without looking over your shoulder, and recover from your surgery without worries. Regarded as one of the safest cities in all of North America when it comes to violent crime, Merida is statistically and astoundingly safer than cities in the United States and even in Canada.to top

Are you the cheapest full service group I can find?

Probably not. But always choose quality first over “deals”. Be suspicious of companies offering “special deals” or discounts for speeding up your surgery calendar if you book by a certain date. You are already saving a lot of money - or time, or both – by traveling to another country for your treatment. Remember, this is your body - and your life. It is good to shop around but it is important to select the highest quality medical treatment and the support services of an in-country facilitator team over the lowest price. But remember we are consumer advocates and continue to negotiate the best rates for full service packages.to top

What if I have complications?

Of course, as with any medical or surgical procedure anywhere in the world including the States and Canada, there may be risks involved. Prior to your trip, your chosen Physician/Specialist – HERE - will determine if you are a good candidate for the specific procedure based on your medical records/history and personal consultation. Be assured that your chosen specialist here will explain all of the details surrounding your procedure and that all your questions will be answered by your doctor for YOUR consideration BEFORE leaving home.

You will be provided with excellent screening and care to prevent any complications in the first place. Remember that your procedures take place in a modern, well equipped, tertiary care hospital housing over 400 doctors representing all areas of medical care - and that means that should any problems occur while you are abroad, you will already have the highest technology and combined expertise of certified professionals readily available. You will be closely monitored post-op by the medical team and by your facilitator group.to top

Should I inform my at-home doctor of my medical trip?

Absolutely, and as soon as you know that you are considering a medical trip. Your home doctor needs to be fully informed - so that he/she can be available to your doctor here for communication, consultation, and the procurement of your medical history and records. Since the American Medical Association (AMA) is not at all opposed to medical travel, and it is the law that you have rights to access your records. Your doctor should be cooperative in facilitating the easy flow of background information to your doctor here, and in helping you upon your return because he/she will play a role in your follow-up regime/rehabilitation.to top

What about my records?

We provide you with both a process and a checklist for obtaining your records from your at-home physician and hospital. And we make sure that you return home with complete records from your medical travel doctor and hospital here.to top

Is the medical trip tax deductible?

Yes it is, in most categories. You’ll want to check with the person who prepares your taxes but as a rule the government recognizes expenses for medical travel as acceptable deductions.to top

Will my insurance cover any of my expenses?

Things are definitely changing with insurance companies. In some instances, medical travel saves these companies a great deal of money, so you should check with them to find out their position and coverage if applicable.to top

Do I need a full service medical travel company?

What documents are required to travel to Yucatan, Mexico?

You need to have a valid passport (and make sure it will not expire before it is time to return home from your surgery). That is all that you need to enter the country. You will be given a Tourist Visa at the airport which is normally good for 180 days.to top

What’s the best way to get there?

Fly into Merida via Houston on Continental Airlines or via Miami. Or via Mexico City or Cancun. Some patients like to fly into Cancun, take a shuttle we can arrange for you, or rent a car, and drive over on the toll-superhighway. But it is easier to fly directly into Merida.to top
