Alan authored a series of articles on Medical Tourism in 2009 and 2010. His vast experience and knowledge as an innovative administrator, seasoned writer, and caring educator have prepared him well to lead Medical Traveler Yucatan. Reform initiatives and alternative solutions have been the cornerstone of his career. A former principal investigator at Tulane University, Alan founded and was Executive Director of the non-profit organization - Louisiana Alliance for Education Reform - for a half-decade. As a reformer, his in-the-trenches work also included high school principalships in three states (Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi) and teaching in inner-city schools (New Orleans). He was once recognized by the Harvard University Principals’ Center as one of the nation’s top principals and spent time studying there under a fellowship. Public service has always been in his blood. International travel liaison work provides an important foundation including his roles as Consultant to the Mexican Government Tourism Commission and as Administrator for the American Institute for Foreign Study. A New Orleans native he has participated in, and helped organize hurricane relief efforts both here in Yucatan and on the U.S. Gulf Coast. Before founding Medical Traveler Yucatan, Alan served as relocation consultant to Americans and Canadians seeking a new home or lifestyle investment on the Yucatan Peninsula. Author of multi-editions of New Orleans on the Half-Shell - a native’s guidebook published by Pelican, Alan has also published newsletters and written articles in various academic publications. His works on Yucatan have appeared in International Living Magazine, Caribbean Lifestyles Magazine, Mexico Insider, and others.to top

For five years running, Alan has received 100% of his medical and dental care here in Merida, Yucatan including surgeries requiring hospital stays, spinal anesthesia, several crowns, colonoscopy, and the routine office visits and exams.
Her own Emergency Room visits as well as several diagnostic and medical treatments at local hospitals and private clinics over the years had proven to Heather that healthcare in Merida, Yucatan is excellent – indeed much better – than she experienced in Canada and the U.S. – and without the long wait, lack of personal contact with the doctors, and exorbitant expense.
Fifteen years as a Merida resident make Mike Riniolo one of the area’s most knowledgeable ex-pats. As an Armed Forces Courier in the U.S. Air Force, Mike had the opportunity to travel the world. This fostered a lifelong travel zeal which eventually led him to the Yucatan Peninsula.
Having previously worked in the hospitality profession, Luis conveys a calming and competent presence for our patients. His reassurance leaves no doubt that you are his #1 priority. His in-depth knowledge of the local culture is important in getting things done efficiently and with great care. Luis’ sincere smile, compassion, and diplomacy with medical staff, are as important as his fluency in English.
St. Catherine’s, Ontario was home during part of his education for Merida-born Jorge Patron. It was in Canada where he refined his English fluency and cross-cultural knowledge. Our newest member of the MTY team serves as a Medical Records Translator and Interpreter for patients whenever needed. University Graduate, Jorge, with his comprehension of the melange of the traveler needs and the local culture, has recently joined the team as a Patient Care Assistant.
